Vetiveria zizanoides
Vetiver is a grass commonly used in the weaving of mats. In the Far East it is known as the Oil of Tranquillity.
Source: Vetiveria zizanoides is grown in Indonesia.
Extraction: Vetivert essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of the root of the plant.
Aroma: Vetivert essential oil has a strong, warm, earthy, masculine scent.
Fragrance note: Base.
Properties: The pure oil is viscous and dark brown. It is antibacterial, anti-oxidant and antiseptic.
It is grounding, restorative and relaxing. It rejuvenates dry and inflamed skin and has tonic properties to help balance oily skin.
Vetivert essential oil is deeply relaxing and comforting. It is used in perfumery.
Uses: Massage, baths, vaporization and may be added to base emollients.
Blends well with: Bergamot, Black Pepper, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Geranium, Ginger, Grapefruit, Jasmine, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, May Chang, Mandarin, Oakmoss, Opopanax, Orange, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood and Ylang Ylang.
Caution: Always dilute Vetivert essential oil to 5% or less in a suitable carrier oil before application to skin.
